Metallica adalah sebuah Heavy Metal / Thrash Metal / Hard Rock / Speed Metal band dari Los Angeles, California, yang dibentuk oleh James Hetfield(vokal, rhythm) dan Lars Ulrich (drum)pada tahun 1981 dengan nama "The Young of Metal Attack".

Awalnya Metallica dipengaruhi oleh band-band Metal dan Hard Rockseperti Black Sabbath, Depp Purple, Led Zepplin, Manowar, Venom,Motorhead, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden dan Diamond Head.

Lirik Metallica bertemakan tentang sosial / masyarakat, korupsi, perjuangan dan kemarahan.

Metallica telah merilis sembilan album studio, dua album live, dua EP, dua puluh empat video musik, dan empat puluh lima single. Band ini memenangkan sembilan Grammy Awards, dan telah lima kali berturut-turut debut album di nomor satu di Billboard 200.

Metallica merupakan salah satu "Big Four" Thrash Metal bersama Slayer, Megadeth, dan Anthrax.

Album Metallica telah menjual lebih dari 100 juta album di seluruh dunia.
